What is SEMPO?
SEMPO is a global non-profit organization serving the search engine marketing industry and marketing professionals engaged in it. Our purpose is to provide a foundation for industry growth through building stronger relationships, fostering awareness, providing education, promoting the industry, generating research, and creating a better understanding of search and its role in marketing.
Why did I Join SEMPO?
Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization (SEMPO), has been a great joy to be part of and fulfills three primary goals of our own organization outreach, education, and research. We want both to understand and share everything there is to learn about search, even in its ever-evolving state. When you are a group of like-minded professionals that look towards ethical ways of promoting the industry you can get away from the perception of the few that It’s snake oil. We know that it’s just an extension of a good marketing plan. Just like SEMPO, we look to share our insights, there is no magic pill or secret sauce (I hate this term by the way). SEO is nothing more than sound practices of actually doing the work, monitoring changes and conversion rates, and then changing things to increase them.
A huge part of Internet marketing is research. SEMPO offers a collaborative forum with members across the globe looking to share their experiences with others. Whenever I run up against something that we are testing out to see if it works or not, I am continually in contact with SEMPO members to see what they are seeing as well. SEMPO offers an extensive library of resources, research, and articles, as well as outreach activities such as Webinars and speaking events. Finally, they survey professionals in the industry every year to release the State of Search report. This report covers trends, guidelines, and outlook for SEO, PPC, Social Media, Email and Display Marketing, New Tools, and the new technologies of the year.
SEMPO membership is primarily for companies like ours, SEM firms and consultants, in-house marketing professionals, Web developers, and advertising agencies. They serve to promote the entire Search Marketing industry, so even non-members benefit from the increased awareness and industry growth driven by SEMPO and their initiatives.
