When it comes to social media marketing, you might be inclined to think that the more Facebook fans you have, the better your marketing strategies are working. That, however, isn’t necessarily the case. Having fans that really care about your products and services is a way more effective strategy than scrambling to help your numbers.
Successful social media marketing starts with figuring out who you really want to reach. Though reaching everyone would be nice, it’s just not feasible the majority of the time. A much smarter approach is to market to the people who are already eagerly looking for your products or services.

Finding a Target Population

First things first: decide who your target audience is. Then, find them on Facebook. Or, help them find you. Make sure you have a Facebook “like” button on your website. Suggest that your in-store customers “like” your Facebook page.
As you’re building a small following, give your customers relevant information and postings that they are going to be interested in. If your Facebook page is always promotional, they might get annoyed and “unlike” your page. Maybe you could post pictures that show what your company is all about. Or, you can put links to interesting articles that are relevant to your company.

Valuable Content is Important for Social Media

Just like on your website, you want your social media pages to be full of interesting and relevant content. If you have good content that people will be interested in, your numbers will grow. And, instead of having people who don’t really care “liking” your profile, you’ll be reaching more and more of your target population.
