If you’ve made a website with Google Business Profiles, you most likely received an email recently announcing that these sites will soon be turned off. While your first reaction may be to panic (What should I do? Where will my information go? How will this impact my business?), don’t worry — there are many other website options out there that can get the job done.
Keep reading to learn more about what this shutdown means for you, what your next steps should be, and how the web development experts at Performance Driven Marketing can help you transition to a new site.
What’s Going to Happen to My Google Business Profile Website?
Google Business Profiles are powerful tools for business owners to showcase their products or services, catch potential customers’ attention with photos, and share essential information such as store hours, social media and website links, important updates, and contact information. This free service is critical for anyone looking to reach a broader audience.
Until recently, Google Business Profiles allowed users to create simple websites powered by the information found on their Business Profiles. Starting in March 2024, these sites will be turned off, and anyone who tries to visit your site will instead be redirected to your Google Business Profile.
Here are some things you need to know about this upcoming change:
- The redirect to your Google Business Profile will work until June 10, 2024. After that date, the URL will display a “page not found” message.
- Any website links on your Google Business Profile that end in “business.site” or “negocio.site” will be removed from your profile in March. Other than this one change, Google Business Profiles will remain unaffected.
- If you’re using a third-party custom domain name for the website made with your Google Business Profile, you will need to contact the hosting company and have them forward the domain to a different website.
- If you have a Google Business Profile but have never created an associated website, you’re in luck — nothing should change for you.
