Extended Length Of Reels

Reels are taking over the world of Instagram. With Tik Tok videos gaining traction through the pandemic, Instagram has added their own short video content. Reels started out at 15 and 30 seconds. Now, Instagram updates include the length of 90 seconds.

This helps businesses to promote products for longer and share more information about themselves in a reel. Reels have started to help public accounts gain more followers over 60 days. More sound effects are being added to the app as well, which leads into the next update. 

Import Your Own Audio

That’s right, you can now upload and use your own audio directly in Instagram. This means that you can let background noise live in your video or create a voice over, offering an opportunity to add more of your personality to your content. 

Uploading and cutting the audio can be tricky, so Instagram has added templates that pre-loads the audio and clip holders so all you have to do is trim your unique clips. 

Grid Pinning

This may be the biggest and most important Instagram updates of them all. Some accounts may not see this feature for a while though. The feature lets you pin 3 posts at the top of your profile grid. Similar to story highlights, these posts will be the first thing that users see on your profile. 

For creators and small businesses, this feature can make sure that important posts get seen. If you have a post introducing yourself, or talking about a recent price increase, you may consider placing these photos at the top of your grid.

Sensitive Content Control

Located in the settings menu, users can choose how much sensitive content they want to see. If your content is labeled as “sensitive” by Instagram then your content could be seen by less users. 

Sensitive content for Instagram is things like don’t necessarily break the apps rules, but could be sensitive to some users. This includes:

  • Violence or people fighting
  • Content that is sexual or pictures of see through clothing
  • Content that promotes tobacco or vaping
  • Content that promotes cosmetic procedures
  • Content the attempts to sell based on health related claims (weight loss pills)

Instagram has a Standard option which is the default, More, which allows users to opt-in to more sensitive content and Less, which restricts content to a greater state than the default.
