Here are some fun facts to help you get to know Molly Parr and Rebecca Gonzales!
1) What inspired you to pursue a career as a writer?
Molly: Much like every other writer who answers this question, I have always really enjoyed writing. I worked as a writer while I was in school, and when I graduated, I knew I wanted to continue writing full-time, so I looked pretty exclusively for writing positions.
Rebecca: I’ve always been good at writing, and it’s something I enjoy. Words can be powerful tools!
2) Have you read any books or seen any movies/shows lately that you’d recommend?
Molly: I’ve just recently finished watching Only Murders in the Building after my mom recommended it to me about a million times. I’m not normally all that interested in television shows, but there is something about this one that is so addicting.
Rebecca: I’ve recently been rewatching one of my favorite shows, Chuck. It’s about a regular guy who accidentally downloads a bunch of government secrets into his brain and has to balance a life of spying and espionage while still working his regular job at an electronics store. It’s criminally underrated, and everyone should go watch it!
3) What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Molly: On the weekend, I try to spend as much time outside as possible. Sometimes it’s easier said than done to spend time outdoors during the week, so I like to take advantage of the free time I have on the weekend.
Rebecca: I teach ballet classes on Saturdays. Besides that, I mostly use my weekends to relax, hang out with my family, and snuggle with my pets.
4) Disneyland or California Adventure?
Molly: If I had to choose, I’d always pick California Adventure over Disneyland, but I’m not really a fan of either if I’m being honest.
Rebecca: That’s a hard one! I’m gonna have to go with Disneyland, just because it’s a lot bigger and there’s more to do.
5) How do you get energized for work?
Molly: Coffee. So much coffee. I also like to drive with my windows rolled down on my way into the office. If it’s cool enough, it gives me a good jolt of energy before I start working.
Rebecca: I don’t, haha. I’m always tired.
6) When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Does that translate to what you do now?
Molly: When I was little, I really wanted to be a pilot. Now, the idea of flying a plane seems terrifying. I feel like I made a pretty substantial shift from this original dream to something a little more Earth-bound.
Rebecca: I had a lot of things I wanted to be when I grew up. At one point, I wanted to be a dance teacher, which is one of the jobs I have now! I also loved ancient history and wanted to be an archaeologist for a while, but I soon realized that it was a lot less exciting than it seemed. I think I also had a phase where I wanted to be a generic “scientist”, but I’m definitely better at the more creative endeavors. I always loved writing stories, but it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I predicted I would probably end up in a writing job of some kind, which is exactly what I’m doing today!
7) Favorite pizza toppings?
Molly: I’m always in the mood for something spicy, so I love any pizza with jalapenos or green chili on it.
Rebecca: I’m a picky eater, so I usually just go with plain old pepperoni. I also enjoy a good alfredo or barbecue pizza, too.
8) If you could be a superhero, what would be your ideal superpower?
Molly: I’d want to have the power to teleport. I love to travel but hate the travel process, so cutting that out would be a dream.
Rebecca: If I could have any superpower, I would love the ability to teleport. It would be so easy to travel anywhere in the world! I could go to a concert thousands of miles away or spend a random afternoon at Disneyland. Plus, I could get a job anywhere I wanted without worrying about the commute.
9) While you work, do you like music or shows in the background, or do you need quiet? If you listen to something while you work, what’s your favorite thing to listen to?
Molly: I always have something playing in the background while I’m writing. If I’m watching a show, I try to turn on something I’ve seen before so I don’t get too distracted. Otherwise, I’m listening to something on Spotify. Right now, I’m bouncing between Harry Styles, Noah Kahan, and Taylor Swift.
Rebecca: I always have a show on while I work for background noise. It’s usually something I’ve seen a bunch of times before and don’t have to pay a lot of attention to, like Psych or Parks and Recreation.
10) What is your best piece of advice?
Molly: I think the best advice I can give is to trust that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, when you’re so zoomed in on something, it’s hard to see the bigger picture. But when you take a step back, you get a chance to see things a little clearer.
Rebecca: I don’t think I have any. I’m mostly the one who needs the advice, haha.
